The Certification
Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) is the professional board accredited
via the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and a member
of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA).
The mission of the Certification Board for Music therapists is to
define the body of knowledge that represents competent practice in the
profession of music therapy; to create and administer a program to evaluate
initial and continuing competence of this knowledge; and to issue the
credential of MT-BC to individuals who demonstrate the required level of
competence.
CBMT administers a national certification examination which measures the
individual's skills, knowledge, and ability to engage in professional
music therapy practice. Qualified individuals who pass the examination
earn the credential Music Therapist - Board Certified or MT-BC. CBMT
is also responsible for evaluating and auditing the continuing music
therapy education credits, or CMTEs, submitted by MT-BCs for recertification.
