Music
Therapy is an established health care profession that uses music
and music activities in treatment programs which address the physical,
emotional, social and cognitive challenges faced by children and
adults with diverse illnesses and special needs, and in wellness
programs which promote the maintenance of good health in the general
population.

The
Florida Organization
The Florida Association for Music Therapy
(FAMT) was established in 1979 to insure professional services
to the citizens of Florida by qualified music therapists. The
FAMT seeks to advance the recognition and utilization of music
therapy as an effective and respected treatment option, to broaden
the awareness of music therapy within the public policy arena,
and to provide music therapists with opportunities to enhance
their professional skills.

Welcome
to the FAMT web site. Whether you are a music therapist,
looking for a music therapist, or just seeking information,
this web site will provide you with current happenings related
to music therapy in Florida. Through rigorous ongoing research
and practice, the profession of music therapy has enjoyed
increased recognition in Florida as an effective treatment
modality for a wide variety of physical and mental disorders.
Our state organization is one of the most active in the
country, providing two or more continuing education workshops
per year in various regions of the state. FAMT members serve
many different client populations, from children through
older adults, and often work as consultants in addition
to their full or part-time responsibilities.
